Next week I’m going to see some of my relatives for a little family get-together. For the most part, I’m excited…but I’m also dreading it because one of the girls there really dislikes me.
We only see each other about every 4-6 months, and yet her aversion towards me has been going on for years. When we get to see each other she never greets me; she doesn’t even look at me in the eye. I’m always the one who says hi to her first, but sometimes she ignores it, and other times she says hi back, but in a cold and careless way.
She quite a talker, but whenever I come up to her and try to make conversation she suddenly turns into this socially retarded brat who can only give you one word answers.
Tiff: Hey man, how’s school and everything?
Fine.
Tiff: Still talking to what’s his face?
Yes.
Tiff: Oh right on…uh I’m doing fine too incase you were wondering.
(She says nothing, walks away to talk to someone else)
When she’s not talking to me, I always catch her eyeing my shoes or a certain article of clothing that I’m wearing, it’s creepy.
I always try to be nice to her. I always try to minimize that unnerving, awkward tension that exists between me and her but she always seems to shun me. I do it for the sake of my relatives. If she wasn’t part of the family, then I wouldn’t even bother.
It sucks because we use to play together occasionally when we were kids, but ever since she hit college she started to care a lot more about boys and makeup, and now, she sees me as some kind of competition. It’s really sad and pathetic because she doesn’t seem to grasp that I don’t give a shit if she looked better and dressed better than me or had the hotter boyfriend or whatever other dumb shit chicks usually try to compete with other chicks for in middle school.
I really don’t care dude, if I could, I would give her a gawddamn plaque that said she won if it means to make her insecurities go away and for her to quit acting like a brat towards me. For now, we can only wait.
On a side note, don’t take the title of this entry too seriously. haha
omg she’s your family, for gods sake. Why should she be acting like that? some girls are just weird..this competition is surely in her head, not every girl is as shallow as her..should you tell her that?lol

I have a cousin similiar to that! Except she’s super nice to me online when we chat once in a blue moon, but when I finally see her in like 6 years -she flat out refuse to talk to me. SOME girls can be catty and I hate to admit it.

Sorry that it’s uncomfortable at your own family gatherings. I give you massive amounts of credit though, for even attempting to make conversation and “playing nice”.
I had a huge blow out with my mom’s new husband last year and now when I go over for family functions, he’s lucky if he gets a smile out of me. I don’t say hi, bye, or go-to-hell to him. I thought I was the bigger person for not saying anything to him, but you’re an even bigger person for trying to be decent. Good job Tiff!

When I went back to Taiwan my cousin acted retarded too!! She would always eye me up and down but she’d talk to me and show off, I always get this stupid competitive vibe from her just because we are close in age…
It’s a tricky because it’s family. At least you don’t see her very often? She’s probably just jealous… since shyness is not the reason.

Is the girl your age? I think she’s just going through that stage in life where she thinks she’s better than everyone else. Sad to say but I went through that stage as well. =( *hangs head in shame*

That title reminds me of stories I’ve heard where someone got a breast reduction and lo and behold! Women were nicer to her/quicker to talk to her afterwards.
All of my cousins are either significantly different in age than me or male. And they’re scattered about and I rarely get to see them. I don’t have a *huge* family though my dad was one of six kids (raised by a single mother! may god or other deities/non-deity of choice bless her).

OMG i have a cousin like that to,
we were like best friends when we was kids,
then she hit high school and she became a stuck up cow,
and judges me on everything i do,
she is also one of those cousins who is nice to you on the net,
but in person not even close to nice hahahhahaha
