Because of the renovation, I’ve been living in the garage with my parents for three weeks already and I…just…can’t…fucking…take it anymore.  Really, I tried to keep my cool.  I kept it cool for the first few days but gees, I cannot tolerate with the way they’ve been treating me.

They treat me like I’m their mentally retarded daughter.

Seriously.  That’s my only problem.  I wish I was trying to be funny, but I’m not.  I’m being treated like a person who suffers from mental retardation.

For instance, my parents will repeat the same stuff to me over and over and over and over again…

Dad: They just put the tiles in today, you can’t walk in the kitchen.

Me: Yeah, I know, the guys already told me.

Dad: Oh? Ok.

(30 minutes later)

Dad: Remember not to walk in the kitchen.

Me: I know.

(one hour later)

Dad: Don’t take a single step in the kitchen.

Me: Yeah, I know! Sheesh.

(five hours later)

Dad: You can’t walk in the kitchen.

Me: (head explodes)

They always restate the obvious…

Me: Wow it’s cold! Oh btw, I’m going to go out tonight.

Mom: Make sure to wear something warm.

Me: Nah…I think I’m going to go with a white fitted wifebeater so everyone can see how long my nipples will harden.

Another thing that really pushes my mentally retarded buttons is how they’re trying to put a curfew on me. It’s really weird. First of all, I’m 21 years old, I’m a woman, aright? And second, before the renovation, I had no rules, I had no curfews, so for them to coerce (yes coerced, dad used anger and intimidation on me to get me to sleep earlier, and mom used “but it’s mother’s day” excuse) me into hopping into bed on my “assigned” time is just really obnoxious…

Mom: I want you to sleep exactly at 12.

Me: No.

Mom: Please? For Mother’s Day?

Me: Why?

Mom: Because it will be good for you.

Yeah…wish I made this stuff up.  I really can’t wait to get out of here (the garage that is!).

Let’s shake hands, I have around 2 am curfews. Don’t get me started that my dad is irritated to find me still awake at 1 am watching movie. SOOOOO irritated.

Are you sure we’re not sisters? Because your parents sound just like my parents.

My parents know my work schedule (5am to 2 pm on Saturdays and 6 am to 3 pm on Sundays) but every fucking Friday, I get asked what time I’m working. And if my mom has something in the fridge for work (meaning we can’t have it), she’ll remind us oh, I don’t know… at least 10 times?!

And the part about them reminding you to wear a coat? Arrrrrrrgrrrrrrrrr.

Everything you just mentioned, I have experienced personally.

We’re either sisters or we’re totally unaware that our parents know each other and they share tips via internet on parenting.

omfg i know how you feel and what you mean! especially when they state the obvious so mant freaking times. my dad ALWAYS tells me to wear something warm. he seems to have in his head that i don’t wear enough clothes when i’m out. dude sometimes i wear stockings under my pants because it’s freakin’ freezing!
my dad uses intimidation, threats and anger too. my mum uses the emotional tactic. but they’ve laid off on the curfew because they know they can’t really do anything.

maybe it’s because you’re living in one room with your parents and they “see” you more that’s why you’re starting to notice things. i lived away from home for 2 years and when i came back i was like “were they always like this?!” my little sister says “yes they always were.”

Poor you. I guess I have it easy coming home at any hour of the night.

When I used to live with my Mom and her husband though, he…HE (my mom’s husband, not even my real dad) was trying to put a curfew on me. Hi. I’m twenty-something years old. And by the way, it’s not 1920 anymore.

my mother tried to convince me to sleep before 12 because she says it’s why her skin is so nice, she never sleeps after 12… and I know she’s only half right… But I still sleep at 1 or 2 these days :/
