I better post this before it gets old! Comikaze Expo is another one of those comicbook/videogame/sci-fi conventions but it is partnered with Stan Lee and his crew. I decided to check out the convention for the first time with my boyfriend last weekend. Assuming it was going to be a small and intimate convention, we decided to take our time by having Shabu Shabu in LA for lunch before going.

My boyfriend no longer lives in Hollywood, and so far, the best Shabu Shabu we had was only around his old turf so it’s been a very long time since I had Shabu Shabu. I LOVE Shabu Shabu. It’s one of my favorite things to eat. And besides the delicious beef and fresh vegetables, one of the things I always look forward to in the end is scooping up the leftover broth to make an awesome noodle ponzu soup.

After we became full of Shabu Shabu, we went over to the LA convention center. Again, I thought this place was going to be a small convention…WELL…it was much bigger than I had expected…which resulted in an extremely long line to get parking. Some lady cut in front of us, and ugh, explaining the details would only raise my stress my level so I’ll just say, some lady fucking cut in front of us. After wasting a lot of time to find alternative parking, we had to wait in another excruciating long line to pick up our passes.
After that was done and over with, the experience started to become much better. I managed to meet and take pictures of some really awesome cosplayers who are pretty well-known in the cosplay world. I didn’t dress up because I didn’t finish my costume. I never finish in time. Ah well, we’ll try again for Long Beach Comic-Con! For now, let’s focus on the lovely ones who did:

uhh so hungry now
btw your bf kind of looks like adam scott and andrew (@howlameisthat) !?

Yes, I believe so. They call it Shabu Shabu so I guess they’re the same thing as Japanese hot pot.

Hipster Robin has such an apathetic look – too funny!!!
Mmm, Shabu Shabu. I have yet to try that. I’ve had both Korean BBQ and Japanese BBQ but not hot pot yet. I used to wonder what the big hype about it was, since it seems just like boiled food…but I realized that the sauces probably make the dish. Maybe I’ll try it this winter!

You MUST try Shabu Shabu! The first I tried it, I didn’t understand it (after eat Korean BBQ so many times), but the second time, I was completely hooked. It’s one of my all time favorite things to eat now.
I think what makes Shabu Shabu special is that I would FIGURE the meat would be more healthy since you’re boiling it instead of grilling (my guess). And yes, the sauce really makes the dish.
